I had a vision and that vision was brought into fruition.
That vision was developed by a client who bought up 1000 acres of
rural landscape surrounding Atlanta in the Chattahoochee Hill
country, a place to create "a community of people living among a
community of trees".
I began as a founding father and have remained as an architectural
and horticultural advisor. It is our wish that the development of
the community and the use of plant material there uphold the
integrity associated with rural architecture of Georgia, and
maintain a natural landscape setting.
This community is proof that we can take the best from both worlds
without leaving the city for the country or deserting the country
for the city. We can again possess the spirit and romantic nuances
of our agrarian past, and merge them with our contemporary ideas to
create tomorrow's dream.
The courtyard at Serenbe serves as the town center. Surrounded by
shops, and live/work units, it is the heart of the community and all
the phases that will be developed. My design for this courtyard
creates a space for gathering and also serves as an outdoor dining
area. The focus of the enclosed courtyard is a fountain executed in
Tennessee crab orchard stone. |
